What are backups?

Backups are a copy of your company's information for when data is lost or its integrity is compromised. There are many ways to lose data, from stolen devices or hardware damage to ransomware attacks and hacked accounts.

Data that is important to your organisation (files, documents, databases, etc.) requires regular backups to a separate physical device or system. This could be an encrypted USB device or a cloud storage solution such as Google Drive or Dropbox.

By having backups, you will be able to recover your important files after being attacked (virus, ransomware, hardware failure).

According to analysts, of all the companies that fell victim to ransomware in 2020, more than twice as many were recovered via backups compared to those recovered by paying the ransom.
