What is an operating system?

Operating systems are programmes that allow you to interact with your device's hardware. Windows and Mac OS are examples of computer operating systems while iOS and Android are examples of mobile operating systems.

No operating system is 100% secure, so the developers of these programmes are constantly updating them to fix any vulnerabilities they detect, also known as "patching". If you do not keep your operating systems updated, it is possible for cybercriminals to take advantage of these vulnerabilities and cause damage.
